Hello, my name is Katharina. I am an artist and illustrator based on Helgoland, a small island in the North Sea.

Drawing is my way of paying attention to the world around me. I carry a sketchbook almost everywhere and use it to record observations, ideas, colours, and moments that catch my eye.

My work is shaped by atmosphere, colour, and observation. I am drawn to people, animals, landscapes, and the quiet details that often go unnoticed. Rather than aiming for a perfect representation, I am interested in capturing a sense of mood, character, and place.

Living on Helgoland influences the way I see and draw. The changing light, open horizons, sea, weather, and wildlife are a constant source of inspiration, even when they are not the direct subject of a drawing.

After studying and working in education, I later trained in the conservation and restoration of paintings at Palazzo Spinelli in Florence. There, I deepened my understanding of colour, materials, and traditional painting techniques while rediscovering my love of drawing and painting.

Since 2025, drawing has become a daily practice and the centre of my creative life. Sketchbooks remain at the heart of my work—a place for observation, experimentation, and learning. I work mainly with gouache and coloured pencils and enjoy exploring new materials and colour combinations.

For me, creativity grows through regular practice, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace the unexpected.
